Q: How do you know what size to order?

Asked by: Lynn Sinclair - 1/7/2017
A: Women usually wear small or medium...men usually medium or large...and most people can wear more than one size...I have an average to small ladies hand and I like the small or XS...my husband has an average man's hand and he likes the medium best, but can also wear a large. The large is like a ladies XL, the medium would be a ladies large...I hope that helps! They are the warmest!!!

Q: Hello, I ordered your mittens a while back, along with slippers, and I absolutely love both. My son is longing for mittens, and I'm wondering if yours are waterproof, or can be sent waterproofed? Also, I need them within 2 weeks. You shipped quite quickly to me before. I might order a pair of shoes too. Do you have plenty of stock to ship quickly again if I order? Thank you for more details. Kim

Asked by: Kim - 4/18/2021
A: Silicone spray is the best way to waterproof the mittens without darkening the hide, but will need to be re-applied often. More traditional oils and waxes will last longer, but may darken the hide some. Anything that says it is safe for leather should work. We generally ship in 1-2 days.

Q: Three questions :) Can you lmk the total length of the women's extra small and small mittens--including the cuff? How thick is the shearling inside? And is black or grey color available? Thank you!

Asked by: Amy - 12/2/2022
A: The Small mitten is approximately 11" overall length, while the Extra-Small is about 10 1/2". All the mittens feature 5/8" shearling and are available in natural, black, and chocolate brown colors at this time.

Q: Thank you for providing the full length of the mitten, but I am interested in the length from the fold of the thumb and index finger to the top of the mitten? I find that mittens are often too long and thereby don't stay put.

Asked by: DF - 12/10/2022
A: XL - 6"
L - 5 3/4"
M - 5 1/2"
SM - 5 1/4"
XS - 5"

All measurements are approximate.

Q: I’d appreciate your advice re: sizing. I noticed in your FAQS that you said your footwear will stretch a bit. Is the same true for your mittens? My hand circumference is 8-1/2ā€ and length is 7-1’2ā€. Thanks!

Asked by: Diane - 2/3/2023
A: The mittens will pack out slightly and form to your hand, but since they are not supporting all your body weight, they will not stretch as much as our slippers. I would recommend a size Medium for your measurements.

Q: Are these suede or smooth leather?

Asked by: Jenn - 12/23/2024
A: The outside of the mitten has a suede surface. Smooth leather, or top-grain, only occurs on the skin side of a leather material and the fur is on the skin side of sheepskin.

Q: I purchased a pair of Shearling Sheepskin (Natural) mittens a while ago. Today I fell down into some salty water left at the side of the road. What is the best way to clean the wet and slightly salty leather? Thank you. Love the mittens. Mikie 585-545-5778

Asked by: Mike Katafiaz - 2/17/2025
A: I would rinse thoroughly with clean water first. If they need to be cleaned, hand wash in cool water with a mild soap such as Ivory hand soap. Form and air dry completely before combing out the wool with a metal pet comb if desired. A good oil based waterproofer such as mink oil will soften the hide back up if it becomes stiff from the salts and provide protection against the next time this happens.

Q: do I make a fist to measure from thumb knuckle around to small finger?. do they run large?. are slippers true to size? I usually use a 7 and try to get a wide one if possible. Thanks Monica

Asked by: Monica Hash - 9/30/2025
A: Take all measurements with an open hand. Distance around knuckles is measured around the finger knuckles above the thumb joint. Length of hand is measured from the base of the palm to the end on the longest finger. The mittens run slightly large, while the slippers are pretty true to size.

Q: Hi, do you make a version with inseams? I'd like to use these gloves for outdoor activities, but am worried that the stitches being on the outside will catch and rip.

Asked by: Alex - 12/19/2025
A: We do not make mittens with interior seams. I have never had a repair come in becuase the seams caught on something.
