Q: I have brick floors. Which would wear better rubber sole or leather sole? I have had leather but I don't believe that rubber was available.

Asked by: Mary Lou Banks - 11/7/2015
A: hi! We added our crepe sole about 2 years ago for our customers that wanted better traction than the leather. If traction is your main concern. the crepe is better. The leather should not be slippery on brick, so I would get the leather if you liked the last sole you had. The feel and thickness is the same.

Q: Dear Sir: My sister-in-law wears a 10.5 shoe, and has very narrow feet. She usually takes a AA in a shoe. How can I be sure this slipper won't slide off her feet? Can you make it narrow enough?

Asked by: Denise - 11/15/2015
A: Hello,

If you were to order a size 10 in Sundance Unisex that would work for your sister in-law. You can add any special needs or instructions in the comments section at checkout. For her narrow foot we would be able to pick a thicker wool for her.

Thanks for your question,

Q: how is unisex different then just ordering a man's or ladies size?

Asked by: nancy - 1/2/2016
A: We have developed our own sizing over the past 40 years, and we can fit almost everyone. For customer who have ordered before and know what size they like, we ask that they order the Sundance unisex size. New customers can let us know what size they usually wear, if it is men's or women's , wide, narrow or average, and then we will send the correct Sundance size. There is only 1/4 inch between sizes, so most people can wear more than one size. It s also helpful for us to know if you like a loose or snug fit, and if you like to wear heavy sox or use barefoot(recommended).

Q: I purchased a pair of these for my daughter about 10+ years ago and for my husband about 5 years ago. How do I clean these shoes?

Asked by: Annette Gamble - 1/9/2016
A: All of our products are washable. We recommend hand washing in cool water with a very mild soap such as Ivory. Form and air dry. For sheepskin items, be careful to dry completely before combing out with a metal pet comb if desired.

Hope that helps,

Asked by: yerme hawk - 12/4/2016
A: We do not die anything in-house. We do sometimes (and currently) have dark brown or black hides that are suitable for slippers. We do not recommend black, as the die tends to bleed. We can make a custom pair of dark brown ones if you like for a $25 custom fee. Please call 888-479-2244 for custom orders.

Q: My husband wears a 9W Nike shoe. What size would he need in these? Would he need to get a 9.5 for extra width?

Asked by: Robin - 12/15/2016
A: Hey Robin,

We got your order and seen you comments. We are sending a wide 9.5. Have him try them on the carpet for about 15-30 minutes. You want a snug fit to begin with because they will stretch some. If the fit is not good, please return them in like new condition with a tracing of his feet and we will check to see what would be best for him. Our slippers do fit most wide feet just fine.

Q: Hi, Would it be your slippers I purchased in Tucson at the annual street fair about 5 years ago? They are still so good and going strong. Worn all the time, (especially in winter months) even outside on quick trips to store. Best slippers I e ever owned. I love them and even tough, I figure these will last another few years it would be nice to have a backup, or perhaps give as gift. AnywAy, no label, just remember they came from Colorado. “10” written in ink on soles. Amazing these are still going strong. Soles are smooth but still totally intact. Just normAl wear to inside sheep fur, especially, at heel areas. Phenomenal!

Asked by: Dale - 11/2/2017

Q: I have never owned a pair of your slippers but I have owned many pairs of slippers made like yours. I normally wear a size 101/2 but I have ordered a 9 before and in a short while they have stretched so bad and especially the heel is so big and sloppy the slippers are unusable. How are your slippers different and reinforced to prevent this? Are the heels reinforced to keep them tight? I would like a slipper that will last many winters, not just one. Thanks, Stan

Asked by: Stan - 11/2/2017
A: Good morning Stan,

Our slippers do last a lot longer then a year for sure. They are real shearling sheepskin and will stretch out quite a bit. If you usually wear size 10.5 you can order that or even a size 10. We suggest that you try them on the carpet for about 15 minutes. You want a snug fit with bare feet since they will stretch some. As far as reinforcing the slippers, we could add a heel cap to them to keep them from stretching in the back or you can order the deluxe slippers for reinforcement in the toes. The heel cap would be a custom order you would need to call in and unfortunately we will not be taking any custom orders until after February 1st. This is our busiest time of the year and we are a small family company.

Hope that helps,

Asked by: Connie - 11/13/2017

You can find the Colorado Moccasin with crepe as it's own item. As long as the item is in like new condition we take exchanges and returns if you send them into us with the packing slip or detailed request.

Q: I wear a 13 4E men's shoe. Are your shoes cut narrow or wide? Can I get a custom pair?

Asked by: steve - 12/27/2018
A: Our slippers are cut wide. and these jumbo sizes stretch a lot as there is so much material. If they do not work for you they can be returned for refund. I would recommend you order an "open cut"...you can specify this in the order comments at check out...this makes them easier to get on as the opening is larger. There is no extra charge for this special request. You can also call with questions 888 479 2244 The width of the size 13-14 before stretch is 4.5 inches at the ball of the foot

Q: What is the lining of the slippers and after waring for several months does it flatten out? thanks

Asked by: Gina - 1/28/2019
A: Thanks for the interest in our sheepskin slippers. We use 100% USA sheepskin. This means the wool remains on the hide for the tanning process...it is a leather and wool product. With wear, the wool will compress. We sell a replacement insole that is foam glued to sheepskin that you can slide into your slipper after the wool has packed out...most people purchase this insert after about a year of wear.
I hope that answers you questions! Please let me know if I can be of further assistance!

Asked by: Bob Bertsch - 3/31/2019
A: Bob-
Sorry for the late reply. Either the 11 or the 12 would probably work for you... the 11 would be tighter, and may require a barefoot break-in period, where the 12's would be more roomy, and allow for a sock right away.

Our sizing system has not changed. We would send the same slipper for a ladies 8 as for a unisex 8, so you could order either one.

Asked by: Ed Rolita - 9/16/2019
A: Hi Ed! Most people can wear more than one size in our slippers. I think they are true to size. If you want a snug, bare foot fit, order the 9,5. If you prefer a little more room and the option of wearing socks, order the 10. Either one would work for you and they are both going to stretch. We have developed our own patterns over the last 45 years, and they are not comparable to foreign sizing.

Q: Is there any cushion in the sole?

Asked by: Cynthia - 9/27/2020
A: The construction is a sheepskin insole with a leather out sole. The combination of these two materials makes for a nice cushion. We use a 3/4 inch shearling sheepskin on the foot bed, and the leather sole is 10 oz,...that is as thick as a cow hide gets . I think you will find them very comfortable!

Q: I have a pair if your sheep skin moccasins. The are the leather sole. I know that in the past you made crape soles and stopped. The sheep skin on the bottom inside of my slippers are very flattened. Consequently my feet get cold from the bottom. I think I need a thicker sole. Do you have any old slippers with the crape sole in a size 11? If so how much are they?

Asked by: Doug - 10/1/2020
A: Thanks for your interest. From what you are describing, I would recommend a $25 foam and sheepskin replacement insole For your size 11 slipper, I would get a 29 CM.. This would slide into your slipper and give you more padding. .I do have a size 11 with a crepe sole in stock at the moment, but this may be different than you expect, as many years ago I had a thicker crepe sole, about 3/4 inch thick, that was glued on. That crepe option is no longer available...the crepe I have now is about the same thickness as the leather, about 1/8 to 3/16. The crepe is a $15 option, $109 in a size 11. We are currently out of the crepe material...it is imported from Shrilanka, and supply chain is disrupted due to COVID...I have a few pair in stock, and size 11 is available at this time. If you want to try the crepe, please call, as I have taken them off the web site until we receive more material.

A: Some of our customers have had success with the gentle cycle, but I don't recommend it. We recommend hand washing in lukewarm water with a mild bar soap. Don't use detergent as it will remove the oils from the skin and cause it to become brittle. Air dry. You can comb out the fur with a steel pet comb after completely dry if desired.

Asked by: Elise L Connolly - 11/19/2020
A: The Colorado Moccasins run pretty true to size up to about a ladies 9, where you would start to wear about a half size smaller. Just order what size you usually wear, and we will pick the appropriate pair for you.

Q: Any Promotions for Black Friday? Any pictures of the sole of the slippers? When ordering, do you order your normal size, or do you order a size forward to account for the fur on the inside?

Asked by: Diane - 11/22/2020
A: We try to keep our prices as low as possible all the time, so no promotions.
I can email you pictures of the soles of the slippers. Contact us at [email protected]
We have the thickness of the fur built into our sizing, so order by your shoe size.

Q: I wear a men's 7 1/2. Due to an accident I've lost width on my right foot. Size 8 fall off. How can I order with this type of issue? Here's to hoping you can help.

Asked by: Marty Bagnall - 12/1/2020
A: Sheepskin packs out and forms to your foot, so it will accommodate some width variations just in the nature of the material. If it is extreme and you feel custom fitting would be required, it is best to call us at (719) 479-2233.

Q: Do you make a slipper made out of Merino wool? Is Merino wool softer than the wool that you use in your slippers? Thanks.

Asked by: HJ - 12/7/2020
A: Merino wool is best used as a fiber product, and is generally used as a wool fiber in garments, not as a fur-on leather product. Our US tanned sheepskins are the byproduct of the meat industry, so are of mixed breeds. The tanning process is of the highest quality, and our hides are super soft!

Q: I wear a size 12 narrow for shoes and sneakers (e.g. New Balance size 12-B). Back of the foot/ankle is very narrow, front is closer to normal. What size would you recommend for your sheepskin slippers, and which type of sole? Thank you.

Asked by: Rob C. - 12/8/2020
A: I would recommend the size 12 Colorado Moccasin with the leather sole. If you specify that you have a narrow foot in the comments section at checkout, we will pick a tighter pair for you.
Answer provided by: Administrator (12/8/2020)

Q: Hi! One of your responses says that the colorado moccasin with leather sole is 5 inches tall when unrolled. Is it possible to have it be closer to 6"? And is it really 5" as that seems shorter than the foto? Thanks!

Asked by: Deborah - 12/8/2020
A: The Colorado Moccasins really are 5" tall with the cuff up. If you would like a taller slipper, the High Top Colorado Moccasin is a great choice!

Q: What do you suggest for wide feet? Sizes are (9.5 and 6-6.5). Do your slippers accommodate wide feet? Thanks!

Asked by: Smiley - 12/8/2020
A: We can generally accommodate up to about a EE width in our standard sizes without a custom order. Just let us know that you have a wide foot in the comments section at checkout and we will pick an appropriate pair for you.

Q: is the inner footbed lined in sheepskin. are the sizes true how much is shipping to FL?I love that these are made in the USA

Asked by: Carole - 12/19/2020
A: The Colorado Moccasin is 100% sheepskin inside with a bull hide double sole. They run pretty true to size... just order by your shoe size and we will get you the right size. UPS shipping generally runs $11-$15, unless you live in a rural area, where shipping charges may be higher.

Q: I'm interested in purchasing the Colorado Moccasin Sheepskin Slippers with Leather Sole but am uncertain about size because of my wide foot. I always get Women's size 10 to accommodate my width, but sometimes they're a bit too long and slip off my heel. I just stood on a ruler and the closest measurement I can provide looks to be 10" in length and 4 3/8" at the widest part of my foot. What size do you suggest? Thank you!

Asked by: Karen - 2/6/2021
A: Karen-

From your measurements, a custom pair may be needed. I would normally recommend a unisex size 8 for a 10" foot length, but 4 3/8" width would be about a unisex size 9 1/2 which is 10 3/4" long. Please contact us at [email protected] for custom orders

Q: Hello! I was interested in your Moccasin Sheepskin slippers with leather sole, but I had a couple questions. For the non-rubber sole, is that something I could stick a non-skid sticker to? I have extra, and I would rather not be wasteful of that material that I have. Also, how much cushion does your slipper offer? I have sesamoiditis, so I need to have a soft cushion between my foot and the hard floor. I've always used Acorn slippers with good results, but now I want to buy something ethically made in the USA. Thank you!

Asked by: Adrienne - 2/8/2021
A: The cushion provided by the Colorado Moccasin comes from a 5/8" shearling sheepskin footbed with an 1/8" bull-hide double sole. I would imagine that a non-skid sticker would work, but I cannot guarantee that it would stay put.

Q: I wear a Ladies 9..5 shoe and wonder if I should order a 9 in case of stretching? I have a pair from New Zealand stretched so much, my feet now flop in them, so I'm trying not to have that issue again. What do you recommend I do? (my foot it a wide but I wear regular usually. Tks!

Asked by: lynn - 7/23/2021
A: We take into account the stretch factor in our sizing, so all of our slippers should be snug to start. We would generally send a Unisex size 9 for a Ladies 9 1/2 order. My recommendation for you would be to order a "tight" Unisex size 9, which will be snug to start, but will avoid getting too sloppy after the break-in period.

Q: I need some extra room in the toes. (depth) How do they run?

Asked by: Brenda - 10/9/2021
A: Our slippers should have plenty of toe loft to accommodate your foot. Sheepskin also stretches quickly, and will mold to your foot.

Q: Is the entire slipper made in the USA?

Asked by: Lisa Clyde - 10/21/2021
A: Yes! All our sheepskins come from western US sheep, tanned in Texas. All our cowhide leathers come from California. The raw materials are then turned into the beautiful products you see at our workshop in Colorado.

Q: Can I order these with rubber soles? If so how do I do it as I don't see the option on this item. Many thanks from a repeat customer!

Asked by: Janet Palin - 11/20/2021
A: The Colorado Moccasin Sheepskin Slippers with Traction Rubber Crepe Sole is a separate product, not an option of the Colorado Moccasin Sheepskin Slippers with Leather Sole. Look for them on the Sheepskin Slippers tab.

Q: I have the men's boot style slipper. What happened to that model? I prefer the high rise. thanks

Asked by: Jim - 11/23/2021
A: We have not discontinued any slipper styles. You may be referring to the High Top Colorado Moccasin, which is 10" tall with the cuff rolled up and can be found about half way down the sheepskin slippers page. Or you may be referring to the Colorado Moccasin with the cuff rolled up. All of our slippers can be worn with the cuff either up or rolled down.

Q: Can the Sheepskin Slippers be washed and if so what do you recommend?

Asked by: Art - 1/25/2022
A: All of our products are washable. We recommend hand washing in cool water with a very mild soap such as Ivory. Do not use detergent! Form and air dry. For sheepskin items, be careful to dry completely before combing out with a metal pet comb if desired.

Q: For the men's sheepskin slipper, the $95 ones, if I ordered the crepe rubber sole is that placed over the leather sole?

Asked by: Lloyd Stoll - 2/6/2022
A: The crepe sole a different soling material, not an add-on to an existing slipper. The crepe sole replaces the leather, and is an additional cost. The leather sole is superior in all respects except wet traction.
Answer provided by: Administrator (2/7/2022)

Q: what is the sole made of? soft or hard leather?

Asked by: Carol - 2/9/2022
A: The sole of the slipper is a soft but durable 6-8 oz cowhide.

Q: Hello, Do your slippers have removable/replaceable insoles so that as time goes on and they wear down, I can replace them? Thank you!

Asked by: Emi - 7/10/2022
A: The Colorado Moccasin has a sewn-in insole, not a removable one like the Skiff, Flurry, Drift and Santa Fe. We can "re-fur" the insoles of the slippers for $30 if you send them back to us for repair.

Q: Hello! I'm ordering slippers for my dad for winter-he typically wears a 10.5 D shoe. Should I order a half size down? I did that for myself a couple of years ago on your advice, and I was very happy, still love my slippers! Thank you~

Asked by: Padrice - 10/29/2022
A: I would not recommend a half size down at that size point. A 10 1/2 should be just right for him.

Q: Hello! My left foot is size 7.5 and my right foot is size 7. Should I go with a pair of 7's? Thanks!

Q: I wear a 9-1/2 4E (new balance) shoe. What size would work best in s leather sole? Thanks!

Asked by: Tom - 12/1/2022
A: 4E is a bit wide for our standard Colorado Moccasin. I would recommend a size 10 and ask for a wide pair, and if that doesn't work we can make you a custom wider pair after the busy season.

Q: It is time to replace the original pair I bought many years ago for my husband. He has a wide foot. I recall needing to send in a template/trace of his feet with the original order. Is it still recommended to do so?

Asked by: Kathryn - 12/31/2022
A: We can generally accommodate up to about a EE width in our standard slippers without doing a custom order requiring a foot tracing. Just mention in the comments that he has a wide foot and we will send a wider pair. If you placed a custom order in the past, we may have your pattern on file so you could avoid the foot tracing this time.

Q: I wear a size 14 shoe (vivobarefoot). I plan on wearing these slippers barefoot and I do not like my toes to touch the end of the slippers. What size should I order? Thank you.

Asked by: mark - 1/9/2023
A: It would be a looser fit, but if you want to make sure your toes do not touch the end, I would recommend a size 15-16 in the Colorado Moccasin
Answer provided by: Administrator (1/9/2023)

Q: I wear a women's 6 (Euro 36). I prefer wearing medium to thick wool socks with shearling slippers, mainly because when I wear leather shoes directly next to my feet, they tend to get stinky. I like to be able to wash the socks. Should I order a 6.5 or will a 6 stretch a bit? I don't like tight-fitting slippers, but do want them to stay on my feet. Please advise :)

Asked by: Anna - 1/10/2023
A: If you do not want a tight fit and want to wear wool socks, I would recommend the 6 1/2. Even they may feel snug to start with socks, so a brief barefoot break-in period may be needed.

Q: How long should it take to stretch the slipper so that my toes aren't squeezed?

Asked by: Rowena - 1/24/2023
A: The initial stretch/forming to your foot happens quickly... within a few minutes, but the final form will take a few weeks. If your toes are uncomfortably "squeezed" I would suggest a half size larger.

Asked by: Mary - 10/21/2023
A: If you like a snug fit on a bare foot, I recommend a Ladies 9 1/2 (Sundance 9). If you prefer a looser fit or wear socks with your slippers, the Ladies 10 (Sundance 9 1/2) would be better.

A: The Colorado Moccasin does not have a removable insole. It is recommended that you order by your shoe size, as we have considered the stretch in our sizing.

Q: Hi, I have some questions I’m hoping you’ll answer: 1. How dark will these slippers get as they age, are exposed to sunlight, etc.? 2. Do you have any suggestions for ways to darken them? 3. Are they veg (oil? chrome?) tanned? Thanks!

Asked by: Lila - 1/12/2024
A: The slippers are made with a chrome-tanned hide for the optimum comfort and durability and will darken slightly with age, but not significantly. Some waterproofing products such as mink oil will darken the hide when applied. Any waterproofing product or shoe polish designed for use with leather can be safely applied.
